Training for the Elderly Care Nurse Assistant
The training for the Elderly Care Nurse Assistant is not federally conform regulated, in the different federal states the are different regulations regarding this training, i.e. Schleswig-Holstein the training for the Elderly Care Nurse Assistant takes 18 Months including 900 hours of theoretical training and 1300 hours practical training. Conditions for the admission to the training are a 9years school conclusion as well as 6 months work practice in the elderly care sector. The elderly care nurse assistant supports the Elderly Care Nurse with all activities of care and nursing of the elderly person.
The training for the elderly care nurse is federally uniform regulated. It takes three years and contains at least 2100 hours instruction and 2400 hours of practical training.
A condition for admission to the training is a successful conclusion of secondary school (10 years) or the successful conclusion of training for elderly care nurse assistant. If thereby a result of 2.5 or better is reached they can be changed directly to the second year of training with out intermediary school conclusion, In difference to the general nurse the goal of this training of the elderly care nurse has the supply of a certain age group of the population.
Apart from the nursing of the sick it contains also aspects of social care and entertainment. The elderly care nurse is incumbent on support the elderly person with personal hygiene, when eating, with tightening. The independent and self-determined conduction of life is to be maintained for as long time as possible. The elderly care nurse train them, if necessary, also to movement and breath exercises, treat wounds and give medicines according to medical order. In addition they practice the actual support (contrary to the legal support, they accompany for medical consultation, support in their personal and social affairs, for instance with authority causes, and motivate physician visits, support them with leisure activities or organize celebration and trips.) The elderly care nurse carry out activities of medical nursing treatment and rehabilitation with the sick, disabled or dementia-ill elderly person. They work in the context of ambulatory care with relatives and honorary carers and instruct these if necessary in domestic care nursing.
Projects
In some federal states projects are realized. New forms of care trainings are tested. Care nursing training differentiates between the integrative model and the generalist nursing training. The integrative model separates two aspects: once a basic training for pediatric nursing, the general nursing and the elderly care nursing, uniform contents are obtained. Only in the second training section a differentiation takes place. Generalist nursing training obtains approximately same instruction during the entire training for all three occupations. However the trainees of both training variants must decide right at the beginning for one of the conclusions, a change are possible only with few projects. With both models the possibility can be intended of acquiring after the conclusion of one training in a biannual structure module a further conclusion.
